Well, I’ve decided to take a vacation from Facebook. (Or at least I’m going to give it my best shot!)
I might make it permanent.
What brought about this change of mind?
It was yesterday’s crash. Strange, but the longer the day went on without Facebook, the more I found myself hoping that it wouldn’t come back–at least for a while. And the longer Facebook was down, the more I hoped it wouldn’t come back up at all.
I felt free.
Now in the interest of full disclosure, I did bump over to Twitter to see what people were saying about the crash over there. There were plenty of hilarious memes and comments. My favorite was from George Takei to Mark Hamill:
“I felt a great disturbance in the Force, as if millions of voices suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced.”#TheGreatSocialMediaBlackout#ExceptForTwitter

And also in the interest of full disclosure, I found myself checking quite frequently to see if Facebook had come back up.
But overall, I was kind of glad it was down.
And I figured, if that’s my reaction, maybe I need to rethink this whole social media thing.
So, I’m taking a Facebook vacation for the rest of the month. It might become permanent.
But I’m not going offline altogether. I plan to be much more present here on my website and blog, which quite frankly have been ignored while I wasted time on Facebook.
And if I decide to make my exit from Facebook permanent, you’ll always be able to find me here.
There are other reasons I’m thinking about moving away from Facebook, and I’ll share some of those in the next few days.
What about you? Did Facebook’s crash affect you in any way?
